America's Got Talent contestant Courtney Hadwin earns golden buzzer from Howie Mandel

"You're like this shy little thing when you first came out".

In a post on her Facebook page Courtney Hadwin said: "I didn't know what to expect when I auditioned for America's Got Talent but the Golden Buzzer was more than I ever could have dreamed of".

What happened in between was her transformation into a soulful singing dynamo that prompted judge Howie Mandel to compare her to Janis Joplin.

All four judges gave Sophie the thumbs-up to move on to the next round of the competition. Watch the video to see her incredible performance.

She's not the first British act to do well in America's Got Talent, with Wimbledon ventriloquist Paul Zerdin winning the 2015 series. When the Black Crowes song, "Hard to Handle", began playing, the shy little girl, all of the sudden, looked like she was possessed by the spirit of Janis Joplin. What can you say about Courtney Hadwin's performance? I was a great feel-good moment for everyone, especially Courtney, who now goes straight to the live shows.America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Courtney is no stranger to talent shows - she also competed in The Voice Kids in 2017 and was mentored by McFly and McBusted star Danny Jones.
