Real Madrid job waiting for Spain manager Julen Lopetegui after World Cup

In what has been has been a dramatic day for Spanish football, the Country's FA made a decision to remove Lopetegui from his position as they were furious that he had agreed to replace Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid next season on the eve of the World Cup, after previously committing his future to the national team.

Speaking to the media, Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales expressed dissatisfaction over Lopetegui not informing the association members regarding his decision to take over the reigns as Real Madrid coach.

Rubiales said firing Lopetegui wasn't the best solution but it was needed after the federation was caught by surprise by Madrid's announcement. (We were told) just five minutes before the press release.

"I wasn't losing any sleep regarding a new contract as we all know that football is uncertain".

As it goes, the man who will take charge of the team while in Russian Federation will be Fernando Hierro (one of Zidane's former Real Madrid teamates).

The Spanish football association (RFEF) announced the sacking of national team coach Julen Lopetegui in a press conference on Wednesday.

The news comes just two days before Spain's first game of the World Cup and in the wake of Real Madrid announcing that Lopetigui would be taking over as the club's manager after the World Cup.

"There's a lot to do".

Lopetegui was dismissed on Wednesday by Spanish football chiefs who were left furious by his decision to join Real Madrid ahead of the tournament.

After Madrid's announcement that it hired Lopetegui, critics immediately began questioning some of the coach's decisions with the national team, including his choice to leave some Barcelona players such as Sergi Roberto out of the World Cup squad.

Spain's first game at the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup is against neighbours Portugal on Friday. "If I wasn't sure that we couldn't have a great tournament, I wouldn't be here", Hierro said.

"The values of the national team are above everything", he said on Twitter.

During his playing career he won three league titles, the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Olympic gold medal with Spain in 1992.

"I admire Julen a lot, I respect him a lot, I think he's a top trainer and that makes it more hard to make the decision".

Lopetegui, unbeaten in 20 games as coach, winning 14 and drawing six, was sacked after being named as Real Madrid coach on Tuesday.

Spain are unbeaten in all of Lopetegui's 20 games in charge as Spain boss.
