Last week we reported that underdog Katie Arrington had incumbent "Republican" Mark Sanford on the ropes in the GOP primary for South Carolina's first congressional district.

Arrington is a state representative.

Sanford told his supporters shortly before 11 p.m. he was likely to lose his bid for re-election Tuesday night.

"Based on the number I see, I think that I'll end up losing this election", he said.

Last week in Alabama, GOP Rep. Martha Roby - who had called on Trump to exit the 2016 race after the "Access Hollywood" tape became public - was held under 50% in her primary and forced into a runoff.

But Arrington has hammered Sanford for his criticism of President Donald Trump, and she enough GOP voters in the district may agree with her.

Trump launched a pointedly personal attack on Sanford just hours before polls closed.

The results come after Arrington repeatedly attacked Sanford for opposing Trump.

In more than two decades of politics and in spite of one of the great sex scandals in political history, Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) had never lost an election.

"It may cost me an election in this case but I stand by every one of those decisions to disagree with the president", Sanford said. Trump hit Sanford for the affair, too.

Sanford is in a tight race for the Republican nomination in South Carolina's 1st District on Tuesday.

State and national Republicans admitted there's virtually no chance Stewart will defeat Democratic Sen. He says he plans a "vicious" general election campaign against Kaine, who battled Trump as Hillary Clinton's vice-presidential candidate and has a huge fundraising advantage.

Democrats in Wisconsin: Democrats at the state legislative level continue to win improbable races.

Women will represent Democrats in all four of Virginia's competitive House races in November, the latest example of the party turning to women to unseat vulnerable Republicans in the Trump era.

He can win. Even Fake News CNN said the Trump impact was really big, much bigger than they ever thought possible. In the 4th District, vacated by retiring Rep. Ruben Kihuen, Steven Horsford, a former congressman, will be the Democratic nominee. On Tuesday, Virginia GOP primary voters ended up nominating a former Trump official who has defended Confederate symbols, Corey Stewart, to challenge Kaine.

Arrington will take on Joe Cunningham, a construction lawyer and yoga studio owner who won the Democratic nomination Tuesday.

In the state's Second Congressional District, which includes the Hampton Roads region, Democrat Elaine Luria was the declared victor over rival Karen Mallard with 95 percent of the vote tallied.

The Senate landscape is becoming more settled Tuesday night as well. "Primary voters in the Republican Party have devolved into a Trumpist cult". Pete Domenici and Michelle Laxalt, the daughter of former Nevada governor and senator Paul Laxalt.

The district, which stretches up past Green Bay along Wisconsin's northern peninsula, has traditionally been Republican, with the GOP incumbent who ran in 2014 winning with 62% of the vote. In North Dakota, GOP Representative Kevin Cramer was declared the party's primary victor, setting him up to run against Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp.
