A heartbreaking photo of a little boy comforting his younger sister the day before she lost her battle with a brain tumor received thousands of responses on Facebook.

Her father Matt shared the sad news the same day.

USA dad Matt Sooter shared the intimate moment online of his two children a day before his four-year-old daughter, Adalynn "Addy" Sooter died from a type of brain tumour on June 3.

"A little boy should not have to say goodbye to his partner in crime, his play mate, his best friend, his little sister", Mr Sooter wrote.

"This isn't how it's supposed to be but this is the broken world we live in". "This morning she donated her tumors, both brain and spine, to scientific research in hopes of saving future children from a similar fate", Sooter wrote. For those who were wishing to say goodbye, I'm so sorry.

Just hours after the picture of Jackson refusing to leave his sister's side was shared, Addy sadly passed away.

'While we still see short instances of our girl she can no longer eat or swallow without difficulty and she's sleeping most of the time now and we've admitted her into inpatient care.

A celebration of life service was held for Addy Joy over the weekend in Arkansas.

'Most likely she doesn't have much time left'.

The photo of the siblings was shared hundreds of times and attracted media attention.

'She wasn't in any pain at the end.

"That in itself is a blessing because she suffered so little at the end".
