Lopetegui was appointed Spain coach in 2016.

And just last November, he reiterated his belief that Messi is the best player in history, according to TyC Sports.

Real Madrid have announced that Julen Lopetegui will take over as Real Madrid manager after the World Cup. Lopetegui is currently in Russia preparing the Spanish squad for the World Cup.

He has previously coached Spain's youth sides and had two years in charge of Porto.

"The most important thing is to support the team of France", he told TF1.

He succeeds the Zinedine Zidane who retired after winning an unprecedented three successive Champions League for the club.

"You have to be focused on having a good World Cup - we are all good".

Lopetegui was part of the starting eleven along with Julio Llorente, Chendo, Fernando Hierro, Jesus Solana, Esteban Granero, Michel, Adolfo Aldana, Rafael Gordillo, Sebastian Losada and Paco Llorente.

"It has taken about two weeks, but it's a recognised name, they know what he's bringing, and I do think the fans will be happy".

After a 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2015 the links arose, but the Germans hammered their opponents 6-1 in the second leg and everything went quiet again.

However, it is now or never for the former Under-21s coach if he is to taste success with his country before returning to club management. The goalkeeper behaved admirably in response and signed a new deal, which will expire next summer with the option of a further year.

The focus will shift from the players to the coach and the atmosphere in the camp will be one of confusion.

"I know him well, and I know that he represents whichever institution he is a part of very well".

Camacho initially took charge of Madrid in the 1998 off-season but quickly departed without overseeing a competitive fixture, citing a lack of confidence from the board.
