Parmanu The Story Of Pokhran is about Operation Shakti, India's covert mission to become a nuclear power in 1998.

However, the film has been receiving mixed reviews as critics are not entirely impressed with the over-the-top patriotic tone of the film. The movie managed to rake in a total of Rs 4.82 crore on day one of its release, despite the fact that it released on the day of an IPL semi-final match. Yet, the wonderful word of mouth should help recover lost ground on Sat and Sun... John Abraham also expressed how grateful he felt that all the work he put in the film, is finally being appreciated. "I have been getting so many calls from our distributors and exhibitors and I'm thankful to each one of them for their unstinted support and for standing by and loving this labour of love", John Abraham, who is playing the lead role in the film apart from producing it, said in a statement. You'll enjoy the film once you get past the initial scenes. For example, the guy who plays Chidambaram's character, who is Ajay Subramaniam in the film, this is his first film, he suits the character properly, he even has a South Indian accent. "She has added a lot of value in this film, as she has de-glamourised herself to a large extent". Directed by Abhishek Sharma and written by Saiwyn Quadras and Sanyukta Shaikh Chawla, the film also features Diana Penty, Boman Irani and Yogendra Tikku.
