Soldiers place flags at Arlington National Cemetery ahead of Memorial Day

Wednesday flags were placed at Park Cemetery and tonight flags were placed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

"We greatly appreciate the work that the Boy Scouts put into this every year and we have a lot of veterans in the town who particularly appreciate it".

You're invited to come help place Memorial Day flags on the gravesites of about 110,000 fallen heroes. "That takes a special person", Walton told Mattos Newspapers. The gravesite flags will be displayed through Memorial Day. It's Saturday morning at 9 a.m.at the Memphis National Cemetery on Townes Avenue.

The Rock Island National Cemetery will hold it's memorial day service on Monday starting at 10:45 a.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

Memorial Day is now just days away, however local veteran support chapters of the VFW and Military Order of the Purple Heart have been keeping busy organizing Memorial Day events throughout the entire week leading up to Monday.

The Hills Ferry Cemetery program is conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Joseph G. Rose Post 7635; American Legion, Manuel M. Lopes Post 240; and their respective auxiliary. His son, also an Eagle Scout, is a member of The Old Guard. "They're honoring people they don't even know". "We want people to keep remembering our veterans".
