Andy Cole believes Romelu Lukaku's first season at Manchester United has been a successful one.

Cole insists he has been impressed by Lukaku's debut season at Old Trafford, which he will hope to end with an FA Cup final victory over his old club Chelsea this weekend, providing he is fit.

The Belgian has played over 1,000 minutes more than striking rival Marcus Rashford in the Premier League and has scored 27 goals in all competitions despite attracting criticism from some quarters.

Speaking to Manchester United's website, Cole said: "I've watched him all season, like everybody else".

"With Marcus, he has to focus his mind on learning and improving and wanting to become a better player".

To get the goals he's got this season, in a team that doesn't create loads of chances for him, he's done brilliantly and really well considering it's his first season at Old Trafford.

Rashford only turned 20 in October but Cole knows the level of expectation at Old Trafford means he can not afford to stand still. You know you've got a massive game coming up and are a bit touch and go or whatever.

"It's not nice when you've got that little bit of rhythm and pick up an injury".

Rashford has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first-team under Jose Mourinho, but has still managed to score 13 times for the club this season. When you do something like (the Liverpool game) and get left out of the team, it's in your nature to question yourself, why you're not in the team.

"I think he looks fantastic. For his first season I think he's done brilliant".
