Voter registration deadlines approaching for June 12 primaries

For this year's Primary Election, 1,195 voters cast ballots during the early One Stop period, compared to 2,716 who went to the polls on Election Day.

Almost 30 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the local election that had three contested races. By end of day Monday, 95,276 Multnomah voters had returned their ballots, compared to 84,801 in 2014. The response is either a voter identification card listing the new voter's precinct number and polling place location or a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application for voter registration was not approved.

Anyone who didn't vote in the Republican primary can vote in Tuesday's election, or vote early through Friday. It is too late to mail ballots. You may only vote one ballot for one political party.

San Diego County Registrar of Voters is sending courtesy postcards to two groups of county voters to reduce unnecessary provisional voting at the polls on June 5.

Part of the problem here, though, is that ranked choice voting in Benton County doesn't apply to party primaries. But for absentee voters, the Rockingham County Voter Registrar's Office will extend its hours on Monday, May 21st to 8:00 8:00 p.m. for those who cannot make it on June 12th. There will be a runoff election between Pam Wev and Peter Roscoe in November to determine who will get the District 3 seat on the county commission. Unaffiliated voters may only return one party's ballot.

While just a percent more than a quarter of the 22,229 voters would seem to be low, it's not really, according to Whitley County Clerk of Courts Debbie Beers.

But poor turnout is a problem throughout the county, along with getting candidates to run for office. The group said it received some reports of voters receiving incorrect ballots and having their registration unexpectedly changed.
