Liverpool full back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been included in England's 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup in Russian Federation - but apparently he didn't find out directly from Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

With fellow Liverpool youngster Joe Gomez picking up an injury Alexander-Arnold has deservedly snuck into the squad but he didn't find out from Gareth Southgate.

"Maybe this picture said I was gonna live my dream and go to a World Cup... dreams do come true", he wrote.

Alexander-Arnold will fight it out with the likes of Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker for a spot on the right of England's backline, with Southgate likely to field a back three in Russian Federation. The manager came and spoke to me just as we were getting on the plane. "If I had someone behind me with only two caps, playing in a massive tournament I'm going to be saying "I've got my work cut out". I said, "no" and he said, 'Have you got anything planned around the time of the World Cup?' I was like, 'No, no holidays or anything'. I played under (Southgate) for the under-21s, so he knows what I am capable of.

"On England's behalf, it was nice of them to let the manager [Klopp] tell me", he said.

"I've never been in a situation like that in my life playing for England", he told Sky Sports News.

'I had the honour of telling him and it was nice to see his eyes.

At the beginning of this season you'd have got long odds on Trent Alexander-Arnold going to Russian Federation this summer.

The 19-year-old has made 33 appearances for Liverpool this season, helping Klopp's side finish in the top four and enjoy another incredible European campaign. You can be not good enough - but he is good enough.

"It's just a wonderful little piece more which makes this season special, even before the last game [against Real Madrid]".

And after his fine year was capped with an global call-up, the defender paid tribute to all those who have helped him on his journey.

"The young defender - who is yet to win a senior cap for England - told "[Klopp] asked me if I knew anything about the squad or anything yet.

'It wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for (my team-mates) so I have to thank them, the manager and everyone else who has supported me along the way.

'Everyone who has played a part, I just want to say thanks to them because without them, I wouldn't be where I am or who I am today.
