Rejoice, fans: Lando: A Star Wars Story is probably happening

While speaking with Premiere France at the Cannes Film Festival (translation via IndieWire), Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased a film centered on the charming smuggler. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and risky criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes.

See original story below.

Lucasfilm told Polygon Wednesday that a Lando spinoff would be something they'd like to do in the future, but it's not necessarily the next movie in the pipeline. A solo Lando movie will give Glover a chance to explore the aspects of the charismatic character that may have informed his performance but have yet to be fully explored on screen. Glover's involvement in future "Solo" films is unclear, but according to Kennedy he could be stepping into the spotlight for his own film in the future. "When I heard they were making these, I told my agent, 'if they're making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando, '" he said over the weekend during a Solo press day.

And so it seems that we can all look forward to more Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian down the road, at some point, eventually. It's possible, but I don't see it coming out anytime soon. But a movie focusing on Lando Calrrissian out on his own would be sublime. "It would also be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie..." .

Star Wars fans can catch Glover's Lando in Solo when it opens next week.

I may be down on the prospect of Star Wars being continuously trapped in the past, but if Lucasfilm is determined to fill out the backstory of all our favorite characters, Lando is not an individual I would bemoan.
