Monzo finally activates Apple Pay - apologises for tardy delivery

Monzo launched three years ago, with banking restrictions enabling the app-based company to offer current accounts last April.

Monzo, the United Kingdom challenger bank, has finally added Apple Pay to its mobile-only current account. The announcement was made via the bank's blog and it also apologised for the delay.

Now that the feature is live, Monzo is talking up the security and privacy aspect of using Apple Pay, noting that when you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Noteworthy, Monzo was able to add Google Pay all the way back in October 2017. Their design thinking has always been a source of inspiration for us. Adding it to your Apple Watch can be done by heading to the iPhone's Apple Watch app and selecting Wallet & Apple Pay. iPad users have to head into the settings, and Macbook users have to go into the system preferences.

One awkward issue with using the Monzo card with Apple Pay is that transactions will result in two duplicate notifications, one from the Monzo app and one from the Wallet app. Just follow the instructions! To make Monzo the default way to pay, customers just need to drag their card to the front of their wallet.

Apple Pay has today expanded to the Ukraine; customers who bank with PrivatBank can now register their cards on their iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and Macs.
