"It's an offensive word used towards Latinos", he told the station.

"En español es 'frijoleros, ' 'beaner, ' you know, in English", said the victim's friend Miguel Acosta.

"That's clearly really racist", Starbucks customer Ana Garcia said outside the store when told about what happened. "It's sad to hear that, to be honest", one woman said.

The barista printed "Beaner" on the cup instead of the man's name.

The store offered Pedro a $50 gift card, which he rejected "because it's like an insult overall".

"We have apologized to the customer directly and are working to make things right", the company said.

"This is not indicative of the type of experience we want our customers to have when they walk into our stores". "We asked for his forgiveness and we are working to correct this".

Pedro is expecting to meet with one of the location's employees on Thursday and although he is unsure of what will come of the interaction, he hopes the barista will face serious consequences.

It is unclear what actions will be taken to address the recent allegations of racism at its La Cañada Flintridge location.

Starbucks has said it plans to close all of its stores on May 29 for racial-bias training. Brandon Ward, 26, alleged that a worker at the location in the Los Angles suburb of Torrance on January 23 prevented him from using the store's restroom because of his ethnicity.

A Starbucks barista in California allegedly handed a customer a drink with a racial slur printed on the side where the man's name should have been.
