Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly contacted AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci over a potential summer move for the Italian.

Several centre-back's have been linked with United in recent months but Bonucci has emerged as a potential target and it looks like Mourinho has stepped-up his interest in the Milan star.

That's because the Metro are citing a report from Tuttosport that claims Mourinho has made contact with Bonucci to discuss a possible move to Old Trafford this summer.

The Rossoneri signed the 31-year-old from Juventus last July for £37m, but they would not be adverse to selling him on already.

AC Milan spent over £210m on new signings last summer but having missed out on the Champions League once again, the club need to offload some of their key players.

According to the same report, Milan do not intend to listen to any bids below £35m, although an initial loan offer with an obligation to buy could be an option.

Bonucci has 77 caps for Italy.

Bonucci was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League last summer with both Manchester City and Chelsea interested.

The defender is also said to be frustrated with the season he has had at Milan, which could be another reason United feel they could persuade him to join them.
