Henry Cavill mustache drama unfolds!

Henry Cavill also acknowledged in his interview with Empire that while it was a little silly to keep Superman out of the Justice League marketing materials given that it was common knowledge he was coming back, he also wanted there to still be a little mystery for the audience before they went to see the movie, so there wasn't necessarily anything wrong with keeping secrets. Not that he couldn't return to do the shoots themselves - of course not - but because he was contractually obliged by the studio to retain his facial hair while shooting progressed.

In the ensuing months, fans have queried just why Paramount didn't allow the actor to shave.

And now that Cavill has shaved off the mustache, he "absolutely" misses it.

I was slightly surprised.

"When we chose to go for the moustache, I certainly wasn't expecting all the events to unfold as they were going to unfold", Henry told Empire. When it came to that, it was one of those things where I'm in the middle of another movie, and to change my look for a movie that should have finished already becomes a real problem.

He's referring to the Justice League reshoots that necessitated CGI removal of said mustache and also gave the internet a lot of much-needed laughs.

For the unversed, the 35-year-old actor was required to grow a mustache for his latest outing, "Mission: Impossible - Fallout".

And, shaving off the mustache for the reshoots was not a possibility. "You can't win every time". It's very practical, and with the helicopter chase set to be a key highlight, it's easy to see how a fake 'tache could've otherwise jeopardised a serious action set-piece. You know, the one that you nearly didn't see (or at least weren't supposed to) in Cavill's last mega-blockbuster. Mission Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie has even optioned himself to direct, and with Mission Impossible only getting better and better, DC would be wise to take him up on the offer. So unfortunately for Justice League, the mustache had to stay on when he reprised Superman, and the end result didn't look great.
