Ranieri, who has guided Nantes to 10th place within the Ligue 1 desk, was knowledgeable he could be relieved of his duties after their closing match of the season in opposition to Strasbourg this weekend.

The 66-year-old Italian, who led Leicester to a surprise Premier League title two years ago, took control at Nantes last June.

He will begin the search for a new job after his final game in charge this Saturday and could find himself contemplating a return to English football with Everton and West Ham both looking for their next managers.

Nantes president Waldemar Kita has indicated that former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira is on the club's radar as they look for a new coach.

"We thank Claudio Ranieri and his staff for all the work they have done this season and wish them lots of success in their next projects", Kita said.

Ranieri coached Leicester to a stunning 2016 EPL title.

"I want to thank the fans who have been great and have really been behind us". I want to thank my players because the first part of the season was great even though the second part was more hard, they gave everything and, for me, it's important that they gave their all. "I hope Nantes will continue to progress", Ranieri said on Thursday.
