Stevens was one of three nominated for Coach of the Year - along with fired Raptors coach Dwane Casey and Utah's Quin Snyder. The league announced the three finalists for rookie of the year, a group that includes Tatum along with Donovan Mitchell of Utah and Ben Simmons of Philadelphia. He was sacked last week after Toronto was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs (the same team the Celtics now own a 2-0 lead over in the Eastern Conference finals). Stevens led the Celtics to 55 wins and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference despite losing Gordon Hayward five minutes into the season and Kyrie Irving in mid-March. But Tatum put together a phenomenal rookie season for Boston, thriving in his expanded role following the Hayward injury.

Tatum has elevated his play in the postseason, averaging a team-best 18.1 points per game along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from 3-point range. Celtics forward Al Horford is a disappointing omission from that category.
