Zombieland was a refreshing take on the zombie genre because it involved a deadly amount of comedy to balance out the gruesomeness of the walking dead. That beloved film, which saw a Twinkie-obsessed Woody Harrelson lead a team of survivors that included Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin, put a wry spin on the flesh-eating apocalypse.

It's a knowing and clever film, and seemed to have the potential for follow-ups.

The movie left the door ajar for more to come, as the zombies weren't all defeated by the end of it.

Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, now on the publicity tour surrounding their latest project Deadpool 2, appear to have confirmed that production is to start early next year, nearly 10 years after the first movie.

Wernick has told Vulture: "We're going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland". "Zombieland came out October in 2009".

'We are sitting on information that we can't entirely share at this moment but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon'.

Speaking in 2017, Wernick said, "All of our cast have read the script and love it. Reuben [Fleischer, director] is signed on". He explained that it was the fact that the film boosted the careers of its young stars that was holding it back.

They were mum beyond that, and say they have details they can't give out just yet, but that it's all positive.

It's been nearly a decade since "Zombieland" hit theaters, and with every passing year, the chance for a sequel seems slimmer and slimmer. Let us know by leaving a comment below!

While Tallahassee might not have aged that much in the last 10 years, Little Rock definitely has so it will be interesting to see how far in the future we find them in the sequel.
