The documentary feature Whitney is an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston's life.

"There were always a lot of secrets". "If you don't resolve and deal with things, they never go away".

The trailer promises that the film will explore her substance abuse issues, her childhood and marriage problems with Brown. An interviewee speaking off camera in the teaser can be heard saying "Robyn was [Houston's] safety net" and "Bobby was jealous".

"He wanted to be on the stage. He wanted to be in the forefront, and eventually she stepped down to lift him up".

The trailer isn't all serious, however, as it also includes glimpses of Houston's signature no-holds-barred approach to critiquing her peers. Whereas the teaser gave us an ebullient Whitney Houston rehearsing with backup dancers and showcasing her trademark vocals, the trailer gets into the meat of the documentary with emotional recollections of the late singer.

Balancing the overall seriousness and somber tone of the trailer is a clip of Houston going in on another star of the times, Paula Abdul.

"She was lovely", Cissy says.

"Paula Abdul ain't s-", she says to her mother. "That girl is singing off key on the record".

Miramax and Roadside Attractions have revealed the new full trailer for Whitney, the documentary about legendary chart-topping singer and actress Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale).

Whitney will have its world premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival today, May 16, and arrives in theaters on July 6, 2018.
