"I repeat that the use of violence never lead to peace".

Pope Francis warned Wednesday that the latest spasm of violence in the Holy Land is only hurting chances for peace, and called for revived efforts at dialogue and justice.

Francis' appeal came after Israeli soldiers shot and killed 59 Palestinians and wounded hundreds in mass protests at the Gaza border, part of a weeks-long campaign to break a border blockade that Israel and Egypt imposed after Hamas took over Gaza by force in 2007.

Announced late previous year, this week President Donald Trump officially moved the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, causing protests among the Arab population in both in Israel and Palestine.

He said, "I express my great pain for the dead and wounded and I am close in prayer and affection to all those who are suffering. War begets war, violence begets violence".

During his homily, Francis also said that St. Paul was uncompromising in ministry, saying that service without compromise is essential for pastors wishing to find peace.

"I invite all the parties involved and the worldwide community to renew their commitment because dialogue, justice and peace prevail", Francis continued, before leading the thousands who were gathered in St. Peter's Square in praying a Hail Mary.

Pope Francis passes by a banner of Philippines' believers during a weekly general audience at St Peter's square on May 16, 2018 in Vatican.

Again quoting the words of St. Paul, he said: "Clothe yourselves with sentiments of tenderness, of goodness, of humility, of meekness, of magnanimity, enduring each other and forgiving one another".

"To always walk as children of light, persevering in faith", as it says in the Rite of Christian initiation of adults, is the Christian vocation, the pope said.

The meeting was prompted by the reception of 2300-page report by two special envoys sent to Rome by Pope Francis earlier this year. "Do not be discouraged, because you have the power of the Holy Spirit so that it is possible".
