Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is bracing himself for unforgiving chatter about his consistent dismissal of youth talent - as he prepares to ditch a break-out youth star from last season.

Michael Carrick says he's happy to give Jose Mourinho his opinion on Manchester United transfer targets this summer as the Red Devils gear up for a crucial transfer window.

Speaking to reporters, Carrick said that the time is right to make the transition. "I am going to jump on the staff", he was quoted as saying by AFP.

"I have had 17 years of incredible and unforgettable experiences". As soon as this came up I didn't think twice.

"For a victor like Michael, to win in his final match has to mean something", Mourinho told reporters.

But to do that, he will need to move things around in his first-team squad - and that means one of his star 21-year-old academy midfielders could be shifted out on loan, with a number of clubs keen to take him, according to reports. I've been at this club, and it is such a great club, so I obviously know the club and the manager.

Carrick said he is considering moving into management one day but it is not something he intends to push for yet.

The footballer played a role in United's as 1-0 victory as he passed the ball to Spanish midfielder Juan Mata, who further whisked it to Marcus Rashford for the goal scoring touch.

Carrick made 464 appearances for the club across all competitions, helping them to 18 trophies including five Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League. Manchester United finished their season at the second position with 81 points, 19 behind winners Manchester City.
