Here we have visuals of opening of the counting centre at Chamundeshwari. The repolling was necessitated due to technical errors on May 12, when polling was held across the 222 constituencies that went to vote.

Rawat said that security has been beefed up across the state, with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) being deployed in strong rooms to ensure fair counting of votes."We have deployed CAPF in strong rooms, adequate security personnel presence will be there at all counting centers to ensure law and order is maintained", Rawat said.

Karnataka is going to be the fifth state where Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)-enabled Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used to cast votes.

"The turnout broke all records last night. By midnight, the figures showed that it was 72.13 per cent", Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Kumar said.

Women and young voters had taken part in large numbers, he added. It was 65 per cent in 2008 and 2004, 69 per cent in the 1989 and 1994 and 69 per cent in the 1990 elections, he said. "Polling on a Saturday is worrisome as it will affect the turnout at the booths, as many citizens, especially the youth, would prefer getaways rather than staying back to vote", Congress state unit vice-president BK Chandrashekar told IANS in Bengaluru.

The election for the Jayanagara seat in Bengaluru was countermanded following the death of BJP candidate and sitting MLA B N Vijaykumar on May 4. The election in two constituencies, Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar, both in Bengaluru has been postponed. The total voters including service electors according to the 2018 final rolls are 5,06,90,538, of whom 2,56,75,579 are male voters, 2,50,09,904 females and 5,055 transgender voters. Census India records that 41.1% of the population is below 18 years, which brings the eligible voters in the city to about 77.22 lakh.
