NASA Lunar "Gateway" space station will soon begin construction

NASA's goal of returning to the moon is expected to materialize in early 2019, when the agency will award its first contract for the lunar program "Gateway". It could also serve as a gateway (hence the name "Gateway") for astronauts traveling to and from Mars. They will probably be launched moonward, in that order, starting in 2022. It will carry a crew of four astronauts for 30-day missions, he added.

"The platform should be orbiting the moon in 2025, a 41-year NASA veteran who oversees human exploration and operations". The NRHO will make the lunar platform closely pass through the moon as well as loop far enough into space so that it could remain in contact with NASA and also get the maximum sunlight required for solar energy generation. "We want to understand orbital mechanics around the moon a little better, far from the Earth's deep gravity well". Future human missions will require a power system that has triple the capability of current designs.Trips to the "gateway" will be aboard the Orion, a spacecraft being assembled by Lockheed Martin Corp., with the service module being supplied by the European Space Agency.

"NASA is still gathering information for Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway development", a NASA communications official told Sputnik on Monday. "It can adapt to commercial partners". As reported on Tuesday the Deputy head of the China national space administration (CNSA) WU Yanhua, also will display two small satellites to conduct low-frequency investigations of the sky of the moon.

The relay satellite will be sent into the halo orbit of the Earth-Moon Lagrange Point L2 in late May, and the Chang'e-4 lunar lander and rover will be sent to the Aitken Basin of the south pole region of the Moon about six months later.
