Rajinder Sachar, former Delhi High Court chief justice, dies at 94

April 20 (ANI): Indian lawyer and former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajinder Sachar passed away on Friday.

Sachar passed away at a private hospital in New Delhi due to ailments related to old age.

Reportedly, the cremation will take place in Electric Crematorium Lodhi Road, at 5:30 p.m. today.

"He passed away at around 12 pm".

Sachar, who was the chairperson of a committee set up by the previous UPA government to look into the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in India, was 94.

A noted human rights activist, Sachar was the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court from 6 August, 1985, to 22 December, 1985. The Sachar Committee prepared a 403-page report and submitted it to Parliament in November 2006. He worked with the rights group People's Union for Civil Liberties after retirement.
