After disrupting the Indian telecom market with its competitive pricing, Reliance Jio is now all set to enter the entertainment segment with the JioHomeTV. The report also notes that the upcoming JioHome TV service will be a separate service altogether and not be a part of company's DTH services that has reportedly been postponed by the company for now. We even saw leaked images of the device in question past year but the now there are reports that the company may have dropped the idea to launch a DTH service for now.

A new report has now surfaced online suggesting that the telecom operator might soon launch its DTH set-top-box and IPTV services in the country.

Given the report's sources, Jio will be taking it as JioBroadcast service for all the Jio users in the next few weeks as the test trial has already been completed. Under this, the company will offer SD channels at Rs. 200 and SD+HD channels at Rs. 400. The report further suggests that the company might introduce it as JioHomeTV. The telecom operator will be using eMBMS or Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service to provide the service for its customers. The report claims that Jio might make the JioBroadcast service live and the JioHomeTV could be the rebranded version of the JioBroadcast service. The eMBMS is a hybrid technology that works on one-to-one system of architecture used by telcos instead of the one-to-many system that's used by TV and radio channels.

One of the advantages of this technology is that customers are not required to have an active internet connection as the content will be placed in the broadcast mode which can be viewed by viewers in both SD and HD quality.

While there has been no confirmation or announcement from Reliance Jio regarding this, the company previous year, during its quarterly update for the third quarter stated that it had successfully performed eMBMS broadcast streams across India.
