Pacquiao and Roach had been together ever since, conquering one weight class after another and taking part in numerous biggest fights of the past decade-plus.

"Contrary to statements which I personally did not make that are circulating in the media, I have not made my decision who will be my head trainer for my July 14 fight with Matthysse", Pacquiao said in a Twitter post this morning. Roach said on Friday that he hasn't been officially informed he's out as his lead trainer, according to the L.A. Times. "If Buboy can get a stable of boxers out of this no hard feelings to Freddie, but Manny has not made a final decision".

Pacquiao, who was surprisingly on the wrong end of a points decision against Jeff Horn a year ago, is set to take on Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia for a WBA welterweight title this July.

Matthysse and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, are arriving in Manila on Wednesday for the kickoff of a two-city promotional tour.

Pacquiao's lone public reference to the switch came in the final line of a news release about his fight this summer for the welterweight title against champion Lucas Matthysse. Who exactly will be in Pacquiao's corner next remains to be seen.

Since coming to the United States for his first pro fight back in 2001 in Las Vegas, Pacquiao and Roach have been side by side in a remarkable rise for both men as fighter and trainer. Roach, with Pacquiao as his main client, won a record seven BWAA trainer of the year awards between 2003 and 2014 and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012.

He will be trained by Restituto "Buboy" Fernandez and Raides "Nonoy" Neri for his fight against Matthysse (39-4, 36 KOs) for the WBA welterweight title in Kuala Lumpur on July 15.

"This is the fight I have always wanted".

Manny Pacquiao sounds like a confused fighter in the autumn of his career or, at the very least, the team around him are in disarray.

Roach took the high road when it became clear he had been let go.

"Manny and I had great run for 15 years - longer than most marriages and certainly a rarity for boxing".
