Michael Slager was given 11 years in prison for his crime, but he is now facing murder charges which could mean life in prison.

But, following the death of Ms Malinowski in August, a grand jury indicted her ex-boyfriend on further charges including murder and aggravated murder. Judy was rushed to the hospital with fourth- and third-degree burns on approximately 90 percent of her body.

ABC News reports Slager, Malinowski's estranged boyfriend, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars in 2016 on charges of felonious assault and aggravated arson.

Judy Malinowski, 33, died in June 2017, two years after her 42-year-old ex-boyfriend Michael Slager torched her outside of a gas station near Columbus, Ohio. "I'm so proud of her and I know one day I'll see her, although my heart will be forever broken without her".

'God please, please help me, ' she said.

Malinowski also spoke to the media from her hospital bed before she died.

He could now face the death penalty if convicted.

Bonnie Bowes, the woman's mother, said her daughter was sure her video recording would be used in Slager's murder trial.

She underwent a total of 56 surgeries in that two year period.

Her daughters said the change in the law meant their mother did not suffer in vain.

Defense attorneys argued that the recorded testimony was a violation of Slager's right to confrontation; however, Judge Reece said the deposition was executed properly.

Ms Malinowski, a former beauty model, inspired OH legislation requiring six additional years in prison for crimes that permanently maim or disfigure victims.

Jury selection began Monday with dozens of potential jurors being questioned. "Guns don't go off on their own", said Kelly.

"She may be the only victim to testify in their own murder trial".

Malinowski'therefore mother, Bonnie Bowes, stated, in accordance with The Columbus Dispatch, that she was "so grateful that Judy can inform her story".
