Ford confirmed it will bring the next generation Ford Fiesta ST to Australia under the Ford Performance banner, as well as the new Mustang and the Ranger Raptor.

Ford Performance will launch in 2019 with a bang - an all-new Supercar racing version of the Mustang.

Whickman confirmed the Fiesta, as the first announcement of the morning, would arrive in showrooms in the first half of 2019, with the pricing and specification for the 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder hatch to be revealed closer to its launch.

"We welcome the Mustang to Supercars, and it's fantastic that Ford, and its Ford Performance division, see the Supercars Championship as a great competitive environment and also a strong marketing platform to be involved in".

However, while Ford Performance fills a hole in the brand's range since the demise of Ford Performance Vehicles in 2014, Whickman said the new sub-brand would not have its own dealerships or even dealer-in-dealer spaces, instead all Ford dealers will sell Ford Performance products alongside the rest of the range.

"We want to showcase our passion for performance and we want to bring performance you can use to more customers", he said.

"We are giving Mustang a proper birthday today, with the Australian unveiling of the new 2018 model and confirming its Australian track-debut with Supercars in 2019", said Ford Australia President and CEO, Graeme Whickman.

"Reality is the market is changing, we're seeing less passenger cars and more SUVs and pickups".

Development of the new Mustang Supercar has already begun with Tickford, DJR Team Penske and Ford Performance working together to turn the road auto into a racer.

Dick Johnson, co-owner of DJR Team Penske, also welcomed Ford's return.
