Rachael Lynn Thomas a West Melbourne, Florida mother has been arrested following the deaths of her newborn twins over the weekend.

Officers were called to Thomas' home on Laurel Oak Street in West Melbourne about noon Sunday, where they learned of the newborns' deaths, according to a news release.

"It is something that is very serious".

"The fact that there are two deceased infants-that's not normal", Cordeau said.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are working with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine how the infants died, Cordeau said. Authorities say that it could take several weeks to get all the results, including toxicology reports. West Melbourne Police announced she was charged with child neglect and tampering with evidence.

Thomas was booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex and is being held on a $30,000 bail. Jail records didn't list an attorney.

It is not clear if the family was under any form of investigation by Child Protection Services.

The children were found unresponsive in the West Melbourne, Florida, home which Thomas lived in with her mother and two older children. "Their siblings are in the care of relatives, and DCF will continue to support them as they grieve the loss of their siblings".
