Eight people, including government officials, were arrested earlier this year during a raid of the Gupta compound by the Hawks.

Reports have surfaced that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has raided the Gupta residence in Saxonwold.

Law enforcement agencies descended on the compound shortly before 2pm.

The officials were from the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit‚ the SAPS‚ SA Revenue Service and Civil Aviation Authority. About 20 vehicles parked outside the compound and some were in marked cars.

Private security at the compound initially refused to let the authorities in‚ but later relented.

"Amongst the assets forming part of the restraint order, include the following; immovable property (residential and business premises and farms), two aircrafts, a helicopter, vehicles and bank accounts belonging to certain entities, namely, Oakbay Investments, (Pty) Ltd, Islandsite Investments 180, Confidents Concept (Pty) Ltd, Sahara Computer (Pty) Ltd and Westdawn Investments and Aerohaven Trading".

The unit said that the Bloemfontein High Court granted the order, which allowed it to seize assets from the family to the tune of R250 million. The R250-million is allegedly linked to theft‚ fraud and money laundering. If there is a conviction, the AFU will apply for a confiscation order for the recovery of the claimed amount.
