WhatsApp is testing a new feature on its beta app for Android that lets users re-download deleted media including photos and videos. The new feature is now limited to Android version 2.18.113 and is expected to be rolled out to iOS users as well.

Amid all the crisis of data protection across the globe, WhatsApp has launched another feature that increases the brand's liability to store personal user data more securely. Now, users can redownload the lost media like pictures, videos, voice messages, documents etc. Users can update the messenger app to Whatsapp version 2.18.113, the new feature has been released between the WhatsApp version 2.18.106 to 2.18110. There is only one condition that, if you have cleared the conversation in which the concerned media file was received then it will not be possible to download that media file again. But now those files can be re-downloaded, thanks to the latest update. Furthermore, if you can tap on Cancel button, which is present next to the timer to delete the recording. But from now on the messaging app will allow you to download deleted media files as well.

It is worth noting that if you delete a media file from the folder in your smartphone, you need to have the message where the sender sent you the specific file, in order to be able to download it again.

The feature is now available for Android users and there is no information whether it will make it way to iOS.

WhatsApp previously stored "undownloaded" media content on its servers for 30 days and deleted it as soon as the user viewed it on their device.

This new WhatsApp feature comes amid recent outrage over data leak by Facebook.

As WhatsApp servers are claimed to be secure and encrypted, it is unlikely that anyone else can access that data.

"Interestingly, the new WhatsApp feature also means that the app stores users" media on its servers even after the files have been downloaded, the report said.
