Batsmen Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Usman Salahuddin and Saad Ali received maiden call-ups in a 16-man Test squad for Pakistan's tour to Ireland and England named by chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on Sunday, with no place - as expected - for fast bowler Wahab Riaz, reported Cricinfo. Secondly, we've borne in mind that the World Cup next year is in England. "This is a great opportunity for us, particularly our batsmen to gain experience in this conditions".

The left-handed Alam has consistently been one of the highest run-scorers in Pakistan's domestic cricket and now has 10,742 first-class runs under his belt.

Alam, among the 25 players called up for the training camp recently held in Lahore, scored an impressive 19 in the Yo-Yo Endurance Test, ahead of skipper Sarfraz and much younger players Hassan Ali, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman. The absence of Yasir Shah meant Pakistan brought in Shadab Khan, who, within a year, has become the leading spinner of the side's limited-overs attack, but has played a solitary Test so far.

Shah was replaced with teenager Shadab Khan, who has only played one Test.

"Yasir's absence is a big loss", Inzamam was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. He was our strike bowler, all the games we've won he played a big part in.

Haq said selectors had tried strengthen the side's batting, which was weakened after the retirement previous year of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan.

Pakistan's Test match against Ireland, which will get underway on May 11 in Dublin, will be a historic fixture as it will be the latter's first-ever Test match.

The tourists then move on to Lord's for the series opener against England before rounding out the Test leg of their trip at Headingley.
