Celebrities who paid their last respects to the actor included Jaya Bachchan, her daughter Shweta Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sonam Kapoor's friend Anand Ahuja, Madhuri Dixit Nene and her husband Sriram Nene.

After a public service, Sridevi's flower-bedecked funeral cortege made its way slowly to a crematorium where her family said their final goodbyes.

Her body was carried in a specially decorated truck to the Vile Parle's crematorium for last rites. Investigators said alcohol was found in her system but concluded her death was accidental and closed their case Tuesday and handed the body to her family.

Boney wrote, "I would like to express my honest gratitude to my family, friends, colleagues, well-wishers and all of you countless fans of my Sridevi who have stood by us like rocks".

By early yesterday morning, people had begun lining up along a security fence outside the private club near Sridevi's home where the body was laid out.

Boney called Sridevi's death a loss inexplicable in words.

Sridevi, who was generally referred to by only her first name, was cremated Wednesday in Mumbai, just four days after she drowned in her bathtub in Dubai. Most of all, her husband was the most shaken after putting his wife's pyre on fire. In the male-dominated Indian film industry, she is praised for having redefined the heroine's role, which had mainly consisted of a few songs and a couple of romantic scenes as the leading man's love interest.

The mourners included most of the film industry, many of them Sridevi's co-stars, all of them her friends and well-wishers.

"We respect the legendary actress for her huge contribution to cinema and also we are saddened by her untimely demise". "She was our strength, our life and the reason we always smiles". He urged fans and media to respect their need to grieve privately.

"Sridevi has given us so many movies to cherish, can't we even do this much for her?" asked Sonal Shukla, a resident of Ghatkopar, who had been waiting at the club since 9 a.m., and also walking with thousands of fans, to pay her last respects. "Our lives will never be the same again", Boney signed off.
