Well it's about to get some competition thanks to a new deal between Netflix, Frank Miller, and Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots, The LEGO Ninjago Movie).

Netflix describes the series as "a reimagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake". The book is expected to be published in Fall 2019 by Simon & Schuster. After Nimue's mother dies, she finds an unexpected partner in young mercenary Arthur, embarking on a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Miller co-directed with Robert Rodriguez the feature Sin City and its sequel, based on his graphic novel, served as an executive producer on Zack Snyder's blockbuster 300, also based on his own graphic novel, and wrote and directed The Spirit, an action fantasy based on the Will Eisner comic book series. It's on this journey that Nimue becomes a rallying point for the rebellion against King Uther and his Red Paladins. Though this announcements comes very early, it appears to be the first time two creators are developing a book and series simultaneously.

"I have always been entranced by the mythological Arthur story - and by Nimue, in particular", Miller said in a statement after the book announcement, according to Entertainment Weekly. "It can be interpreted in a number of ways - from a delightful children's story, as in 'The Sword in the Stone, ' to a terrifying interpretation like 'Excalibur'". It seems that Miller is about to become a record-holder, though, becoming the first writer to simultaneous create a book and a TV show.

Added Wheeler, "I am honored and humbled to be working with the living legend Frank Miller on Cursed". Several of his works and characters have been adapted for the screen, with Miller having executive produced film versions of "Sin City" and "300". He is with Nigro Karlin Segal and Feldstein and Franklin Weinrib. On the TV side, Wheeler's credits include NBC's shortlived superhero drama The Cape. He is repped by WME and Sloane Offer.
