Sarah Drew, Michelle Hurd Cast in CBS' 'Cagney & Lacey' Pilot

Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless originally played Lacey and Cagney, respectively, on the original series.

Sarah Drew and Michelle Hurd have joined the pilot for CBS' reboot of the classic procedural "Cagney & Lacey".

Written by Bridget Carpenter and directed by Rosemary Rodriguez, the new Cagney & Lacey will follow the two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of Los Angeles safe.

Drew will play LAP Detective Cagney, Lacey's nimble and easygoing partner and protege. Carpenter executive produces with Rodriguez.

CBS TV Studios is co-producing with MGM Television. The series won two best drama Emmys and six lead actress in a drama series trophies - four for Daly and two for Gless.

The news comes days after Drew and co-star Jessica Capshaw were let go from the veteran Shondaland medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

The original Cagney & Lacey ran from 1982 to 1988 on CBS and is the latest series to get another shot at primetime.

Drew has been on Grey's Anatomy for nine season, eight of them as a series regular, playing the role of April Kepner.

Drew is repped by Innovative Artists, LINK Entertainment and attorney Alex Kohner; Hurd, whose credits also include Fox's Lethal Weapon, CBS' Hawaii Five-0 and Starz's Ash vs. Hurd is represented by APA and TMT Entertainment Group.
