Snow is in the forecast for a chilly St Patrick's Day and Met Éireann has warned of flooding on the back of a rain warning from Tuesday night and for all day Wednesday. St Patrick's Day on Saturday will see freezing temperatures but there will be some sunshine in the afternoon.

Met Eireann stated: "It will be mild at first, but early indications suggest that it will become very cold over St Patrick's weekend".

The good news is that the weather front will bring dry spells for large parts of Ireland for Saturday and the peak St Patrick's Day marching programme.

The miserable run of bad weather following on from the big freeze at the start of the month continues with a status yellow wind and rain warning in place across the country on Wednesday and Thursday. "Very cold and frosty again on Sunday night, but mostly dry".

As well as this, fears of a return of the "Beast from the East" this weekend are growing with Met Eireann predicting snow and icy conditions over the Bank Holiday weekend. However, it will also result in the weather from Friday through to Sunday being exceptionally cold.
