He was placed under a franchise tag the last two years. Now that it appears Cousins will replace Keenum as their starter, the Vikes will undoubtedly be on the short list of championship contenders in 2018.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins is cashing in on free agency.

Rosen is also reporting that his source for the information is saying that Cousins will earn around $28 million per year. The performance earned him his first-ever Pro Bowl selection with the feeling that he would be the team's quarterback of the future.

The Vikings are considered the favorite for Cousins with the New York Jets and Arizona also in the mix.

The Brownwood, Texas native saw his best season in his five seasons in the National Football League a year ago with the Vikings and make a notable playoff run, as both Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater battled injuries last season. And on his side of the equation, what are Kirk Cousins' priorities when determining his next team? The Vikings weren't the first team to give up on Keenum, either. What's up with that? Minnesota will still be one of the top teams in the NFC heading into 2018, but there are a few moves they need to make in addition to Cousins.

Cousins has thrown for over 4,000 yards in each of his three seasons as a starter, but the Redskins have just one playoff appearance and have seen their win total drop each season. At this point the Saints don't appear eager to add any more to that figure. However, NFL Media reported Tuesday that Brees will get a two-year, $50 million deal to return to New Orleans. But Cousins is more of a known commodity as a quarterback, overall, with three consecutive 4,000-yard passing seasons. Full terms of the deal will likely be released closer to when the quarterback actually signs a contract.

Which underrated free agent should the Vikings look to sign this offseason?

"We all understand on how the quarterback position has a direct influence on how your team plays", Joseph said in February. At the time, Gary Kubiak was Houston's head coach and Vance Joseph was the team's defensive backs coach. "Obviously we have to get better there, whoever is going to be the quarterback".

Or as Elway put it at the scouting combine: "I didn't say it". Only Cleveland had more interceptions on offense in 2017. Keenum's best attribute might be his new defense.

"As I'm about to make one of the bigger decisions of my life, I'll be saying goodbye to my familiar life as a Redskin".

This kid's going to be fun to cover. "So, it would be hard to scout me I think".
