Jets expected to sign Teddy Bridgewater to 1-year deal

The Jets are apparently moving on from their chase of Kirk Cousins, who is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, but Bridgewater is a risk.

NY is expected to sign the former Vikings quarterback to a one-year deal, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the situation.

The Jets pick No. 6 overall, and barring the unforeseen, at least one of those quarterbacks should be available when NY is on the clock.

Bridgwater was once a franchise staple of the Minnesota Vikings, but a leg injury suffered prior to the 2016-17 season put not only his status as the go-to guy under center in question, but his entire National Football League career.

Years have gone by where the New York Jets have lost out on either signing or drafting a franchise quarterback.

Whether or not this means the Jets do not draft a quarterback sixth overall is yet to be seen. In that game, he threw two passes, and one was intercepted. Plenty of teams will look to trade up for a quarterback, including the Buffalo Bills at 12 and the Arizona Cardinals at 15.

Following a career year in 2017, the New York Jets re-signed veteran quarterback Josh McCown on Tuesday afternoon.

Minnesota has elected to let quarterbacks Keenum, Sam Bradford and Bridgewater test free agency.
