Harry Kane is out until May and faces a desperate battle to be fully fit for the World Cup.

Harry Kane is reportedly out until May with an ankle injury.

Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mirror reported Tuesday Kane has been ruled out "until May and faces a desperate battle to be fully fit" for this summer's tournament in Russian Federation.

Tottenham's Premier League leading scorer damaged ankle ligaments for the third time in 18 months in Sunday's 4-1 win at Bournemouth.

With the World Cup in Russian Federation now less than 100 days away, the FA will not want Kane rushed back from his injury by Spurs.

The England striker is due to receive results of a scan today, but initial assessments indicate that the damage is similar to the injury that caused him to miss ten matches in seven weeks last season.

If the latest injury is as bad as feared, Kane would miss the FA Cup quarter-final at Swansea on Saturday, the semi-final if Tottenham progress and four league fixtures, including clashes with Chelsea and Manchester City.

With the World Cup just three months away, national coach Gareth Southgate will also be eager to find out how long Kane could be sidelined for.

Gareth Southgate is set to name his squad for this month's worldwide friendly matches against Holland and Italy, but Kane will be absent for both ahead of this summer's showpiece.

Both Southgate and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will be praying Kane's recovery is more in line with when he hurt his ankle for the second time, against Millwall a year ago, but recovered much faster than expected.
