Although the latest storm was not expected to bring as many power outages as a nor'easter last week, about 12,000 customers in MA lost power Tuesday morning. Winter storm warnings were in effect for parts of Virginia and West Virginia, where heavy snow already was reported Monday.

The NWS warned that travel during Tuesday morning and evening will be hard to impossible.

The northeast corner of CT will experience the heaviest blanket, Buttrick said, predicting up to 12.5 inches in the so-called quiet corner. The nor'easter bearing down on the region could bring up to 2 feet of snow with it, in some areas, along with damaging winds.

By Wednesday morning, lingering light snow will continue for most of northern NY and into New England.

Mayor Marty Walsh says schools will be closed citywide Tuesday. "It seems like this one is going to be a big one". In fact, most nor'easters qualify as weather bombs due to the swift movement up the coast, carried by easterly winds, and compounded by a sudden drop in atmospheric pressure - in geek speak, this happens when the central pressure of a low pressure system drops at least 24 millibars within 24 hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for much of the MA coast, a winter storm warning for most of New England and a winter weather advisory for portions of New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The weather service issued a blizzard warning for much of the coast of Maine, New Hampshire, and MA. Officials have asked those who do not need to travel to stay off of the roads on Tuesday. In addition, Weather.com is stressing that the seas will be deadly during the storm.

As residents were still digging out from that snow, a second storm hit the Northeast late last week.
