Instead, Case Keenum intends to sign with Denver once free agency begins.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to break the news late Monday night.

The Broncos likely won't take a quarterback when they pick at No. 5 in next month's draft.

Players can not sign free agent contracts until the new league year opens at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Keenum is also a player the Broncos felt they knew well given the team's senior personnel adviser and former coach Gary Kubiak coached Keenum for two seasons when Kubiak was the Texans' head coach.

The knock-on effect of Keenum's move could see last season's Denver starter Trevor Siemian traded or released while the likes of Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater are the other two names who could leave the Vikings and assess their options elsewhere.

Only the winless Cleveland Browns threw more interceptions than the Broncos' 22, and Denver had just one receiver catch more than 50 passes and finish with more than 560 yards receiving - Demaryius Thomas with 83 catches and 949 yards.

Siemian again handily beat out Lynch last summer, but the Broncos would cycle through their trio of homegrown QBs during a 5-11 season that almost cost rookie head coach Vance Joseph his job.

The veteran quarterback completedly almost 68 percent of his passes and posted a 3-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Broncos quarterback John Elway has talked repeatedly during the offseason about the need to get better at quarterback.

At the National Football League scouting combine this month, Elway said, "we'll continue to look at all of the options out there when it comes to quarterback".

"I still think we're not too far away", Elway said at the combine. We didn't play well there past year. There were some things that we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do.
