With Amendola staying in the AFC East, Patriots fans will get to see him take on the Patriots twice in the regular season. In 15 games, Amendola recorded 61 receptions for 659 yards and two touchdowns.

It's a stunning development, as most analysts assumed Amendola would return for another season in New England if he elected to keep playing.

The Dolphins need help at receiver after trading Landry to the Cleveland Browns for a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 seventh-round pick after not being able to agree to terms on a long-term deal with the three-time Pro Bowler.

NFL Network first reported that Amendola, 32, is headed to Miami. The team is also reportedly signing Chiefs slot receiver Albert Wilson.

Free agents can not officially sign with teams until NFL Free Agency begins on Wednesday at 4pm, but this news will certainly be hard to take for New England fans.

Amendola saved his best performances for the 2017 playoffs as he caught 26 passes for 348 yards two touchdowns.

And so, the Dolphins suddenly have a logjam at receiver. Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker were expected to start, and Jakeem Grant proved he had big-play ability in the second half of the season.
