O Globo (h/t the Press Association, via the Guardian) reported national team medic, Rodrigo Lasmar, has said the attacker is disappointed with the news of his expected layoff.

"We have time to recuperate him and it will all be done to ensure he is ready as quickly as possible so that he will have enough time to prepare adequately and arrive in top condition for the tournament", Lasmar added.

"PSG already know they will not have Neymar in the next few games, six weeks minimum, because this treatment will last six to eight weeks", Neymar Sr said to ESPN Brazil.

According to AS, it was actually Neymar who told PSG he wants surgery, which completely went against their wishes for him to undergo 'a more conservative course of treatment'.

Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, absent for Sunday's loss, had produced a magnificent save to deny Di Maria minutes earlier but was helpless to keep out the Argentine's shot as it flicked Adil Rami before nestling in the corner. It's the game of the season, as we want to qualify for the quarter-finals. "But the focus of everyone is PSG".

"Neymar has suffered a fracture to his fifth metatarsal".

Neymar's future is the subject of intense speculation less than a year after joining PSG from Barcelona for a world-record £200million fee.

Neymar will have surgery in Brazil later this week.

Draxler has previous experience of shining against Real Madrid in the Champions League, having been part of the VfL Wolfsburg side that beat Los Blancos 2-0 in the first leg of the opening knockout stage in 2015/16.

On Tuesday, the Brazilian's father had claimed the player would be out for "at least six weeks".

However, Neymar should be fit to play for Brazil at the World Cup in Russia in June and July.

But Zinedine Zidane has refused to be drawn on PSG's refusal to confirm Neymar's prognosis when asked about the episode following Real's 1-0 defeat to Espanyol.
