We're in for some legendary battles, and the overall result will be exciting! If Rayquaza is defeated more times than Kyogre and Groudon combined, then from March 5th to March 16th, Pokémon that prefer windy conditions will be more likely to hatch from Eggs. Players will be able to battle all three of Hoenn's Legendary "Weather Trio" in gyms through March 3rd.

For more on the event, check out the official blog.

The global challenge is based on who defeats the most Pokémon between Rayquaza, or Kyogre and Groudon combined. Otherwise, players are more likely to collect eggs containing Pokemon that prefer sunny or rainy weather.

Each month, a special Pokemon will appear frequently around the world for just a few hours.

As part of the event, Pokemon Go will also be releasing special item bundles from the in-game store that contain Raid Passes to help players participate in more Raid Battles.

This could also be an attempt to bring back lapsed Pokemon GO players, but it's worth pointing out that legendary raids may be virtually impossible for Pokemon trainers that stopped playing the game awhile back.

What happens if Kyogre, Groudon or Rayquaza wins?

If you previously missed your chance to grab Kyogre, Groudon, or Rayquaza in Pokémon GO, you're going to be happy to know you'll be getting another opportunity to catch them soon. Legendary raid Pokemon are no joke, and usually require multiple Pokemon trainers and powerful Pokemon, like Golem and Tyranitar.

Niantic has announced the return of these Legendary Pokemon, and it looks like now it's the ideal time to catch all three ancient Legendary Pokemon, including Rayquaza, before they leave on March 5.
