But today, the network added yet another cast member to join previously announced stars Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff and Scoot McNairy.

The cast for "True Detective" season 3 is beginning to fill out with stars from "Justice League" and "The Purge" joining the show...

Michael Greyeyes from "Fear the Walking Dead" and Jon Tenney from "The Closer" have also joined "True Detective" season 3 in supporting roles.

Though the likelihood of another season of True Detective seemed preposterously low during the hangover caused by 2015's bizarrely undercooked sophomore run, we have now moved beyond such despair.

Fisher will play Freddy Burns, Wayne's (Ali) son, and Fisher, Greyeyes, and Tenney will play recurring characters Henry Hays, Brett Woodard, and Alan Jones, respectively. For this season's fourth episode, the series creator co-writes alongside David Milch (Deadwood).

The third season of the anthology series is set in the heart of the Ozarks wherein a disturbing crime occurs and a mystery that deepens over decades plays out in the three separate time periods.

Unlike season two, which was rushed to premiere just 15 months after the breakout first season, Pizzolatto has had three years to work on this new story as True Detective's fate remained unclear. The creator/executive producer has also brought on filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier to direct most of this season's episodes, although this season will also featuring the directorial debut of Nic Pizzolatto himself.
