Previously, Netflix signed "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" creator Shonda Rhimes from ABC in a contract that costs $10 million a year.

"Ryan Murphy's series have influenced the global cultural zeitgeist, reinvented genres and changed the course of television history", said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. From Nip/Tuck - our first licensed series - to American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson and American Horror Story, we've seen how his brand of storytelling captivates consumers and critics across the globe.

FX CEO John Landgraf, considered one of the brightest executives in the business and one of Netflix's loudest opponents, has responded to Murphy's departure in a new statement.

"I am a gay kid from IN who moved to Hollywood IN 1989 with $55 dollars IN savings IN my pocket, so the fact that my dreams have crystallised and come true IN such a major way is emotional and overwhelming to me". His current lineup of shows on Fox and FX will continue to air on their respective networks.

"With more than 20 scripted original series on our schedule or upcoming, FX has a very successful track record of identifying and developing talented writers who have produced award-winning hit shows and it will continue to do so", he continued. Since then, Murphy had remained in the Fox family until his big move to Netflix was announced last night, and his career had closely been associated with FX where he now has four series, anthologies American Horror Story, American Crime Story and Feud and upcoming period drama Pose.

The series will be set in 1986 and "examines the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York City: the emergence of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world".

Unlike his other shows, however, Pose is expected to star "largely new and unknown performers".
