Gun stocks reverse early gains after the Florida school shooting

"I was texting my friends and my family", the student told WPTV-TV, an NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, after being evacuated from the school.

The death toll from Wednesday's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida has reached 17, with both children and adults among the fatalities.

Her grandparents now live in metro Atlanta, and her mother is a 1991 graduate of Marietta High School.

"Seventeen more of our young people dead, killed by a shooter with an automatic weapon he had no business having", she added.

Nineteen-year-old Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder in the Wednesday afternoon shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said February 14 investigators are dissecting the suspect's social media posts and found material that is "very, very disturbing".

"It's a horrific, horrific day", Israel said.

Police said Cruz concealed himself in the crowd and was among those running out of the school after the shooting.

"We believe he had one AR-15 rifle. he had countless magazines". The FBI said it would not comment on whether the Nikolas Cruz on YouTube and the Nikolas Cruz in custody were the same person.

Cruz had attended Marjory Stoneman but was expelled for disciplinary reasons. Two other bodies were discovered outside the school, another was found nearby along a local road and two others died at a hospital.

Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson called the shooting "heartbreaking" on Twitter, sending her thoughts and prayers to the victims.

He did not mention guns or gun control.

"I heard Aaron say, 'No, that is not firecrackers.' That's the last I heard of him", May said.

Trump said he has spoken with Florida Gov. Rick Scott about the shooting.

A student who escaped from the shooting, describes Cruz as a "strange kid" and a kind of "loner", AP notes.
