George RR Martin confirms release schedule of latest ASOIAF installment

But having pushed it back a fair few times already it seems that the book may not land until at least next year during a Q&A with his fans on his Livejournal page.

Author George R.R. Martin knows you're exhausted of waiting for new material, but he's asking you to be a little more patient. The good news? He's close to finishing Vol. 1 of "Fire and Blood", the Targaryen family history spinoff series. However, Martin did give a clue as to when he will publish "Winds of Winter", the long-awaited installment to "A Song of ice and Fire" ("ASOIAF"). 'The second is hardly begun. With the topic being Martin's upcoming series of companion novels, to be titled Fire and Blood, the author addressed something that has become a fairly standard question regarding The Winds of Winter and how the F&B volumes will affect the long-delayed sequel's release.

'The first volume should be completed soon, ' Martin wrote.

"Most of Fire and Blood consists of the "sidebars" I originally wrote for The World of Ice & Fire", wrote Martin on his blog. According to series creator George R.R. Martin, the sixth novel will be delayed even further as he is now working on his spinoff books about the history of the Targaryen family, Fire and Blood.

This is far from the first splash of cold water to hit fans who have been yearning for years to see how the next stage of Ice and Fire will play out on paper. But not as much as I hoped a year ago when I thought to be done by now.

HBO's adaption of the series, Game of Thrones, is preparing to enter its final season.
