Eight people critically injured after Stayner, Ont. crash

The crash happened north of Stayner on Highway 26 between Nottawasaga Sideroad 27-28 and Nottawasaga Sideroad 30-31.

Peter Leon told CP24 by phone that the vehicle and an SUV collided in the area of Hwy. He did say that two Ornge air ambulances and two additional land ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

County of Simcoe Paramedic Services confirms eight people who were in the minivan are being taken to hospital with critical condition. The victims are all suffering from critical injuries, they said.

Leon said that snow squalls in the area may have hampered driving conditions.

An official with Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto has since told CTV News Toronto that they are preparing to receive multiple pediatric patients.

At least five people sustained serious injuries Friday afternoon in a collision between an SUV with five occupants and a bus carrying 41 teenagers and four adults. Those on the bus were Hamilton residents on their way back from a trip to Blue Mountain, he said.

The bus passengers were taken to the Stayner Arena, which served as a reception centre.

Highway 26 is expected to be closed for several hours between Wyant Drive and Mosley Street.
