Deputies, EMS and a coroner were called to the death at Wildcat Falls.

Jacob Acker was hiking with a group at the Wildcat Branch Falls on Friday morning, according to a news release from the Greenville County Coroner's Office.

Wildcat Falls is about 120 miles west of Charlotte via S.C.11 North and Interstate 85 North.

The victim was shot at Lady Godivas on Augusta Road and then taken to Quick Trip down the street by another person, Fowler said.

Acker was climbing rocks when he grabbed the crevice of a boulder, which separated and fell on him. His cause of death is listed by the coroner's office as blunt force trauma to the head. Chief Marion Cruell with both the River Falls and Slater-Marietta Fire Departments said he believes this is the sixth or seventh death in the area.

Both Cruell and Ellis described the incident as a "freak accident".

This is a developing story.
